MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program with an emphasis in curriculum and instruction is offered to practicing teachers who are either currently teaching or have previously taught for at least one academic year. The teaching degree program is designed to be a catalyst for positive change in education organizations by improving classroom practices. The MAT program provides professionals seeking advancement and improved skills the opportunity to enhance personal growth and strengthen performance through a distance learning format.
Like the campus-based Master of Arts program, the MAT allows for collaborative and integrative investigation of problems in practice. There are three strands interwoven throughout the entire MAT program: action research, professional portfolio,
and technology.
University of Saint Mary's online teaching degree program follows the graduate education conceptual model: Knowledge in Action. The model rests on the theoretical framework of the practical argument (Fenstermacher, 1986) which honors the complexity of decision making.
A unique feature that University of Saint Mary offers is the Applied Learning Guarantee.
For one year following graduation, you will have access to instructional mentoring and consultation by university faculty members who will advise on the specific application and implementation of your coursework into the classroom.
