What should I look for in a distance education degree program?
The strongest distance education programs are those with proven track records, experience low student attrition rates, receive consistently high student satisfaction scores and require no on campus visits. University of Saint Mary has all of these important attributes. Its e-learning expertise has been successfully demonstrated through its online Master of Arts in
Teaching program.
How much does the program cost?
Course tuition for the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) is $450* per credit hour. The University of Saint Mary offers online students the same outstanding education that campus- based students receive. Easy access to affordable education helps us fulfill our goal of ensuring that every individual who has the desire to further their education has the opportunity to do so.
*Tuition rates are based on the 2009-2010 Tuition Schedule. Tuition and fees are determined annually and are subject to change.
How long will it take to earn my MAT?
The online Master of Arts in Teaching program can be completed in less than 2 years.
University of Saint Mary holds accreditation by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation recognize NCATE to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and school personnel.
Does this program provide me with certification and/or licensure?
We are fully accredited by both the NCACS and NCATE; however, the MAT is not a teacher preparation program for an initial teaching license. It is important to check with your state to determine if our program meets your state's certification/licensing criteria.
Students who graduate from the online Master of Arts in Teaching program from University of Saint Mary receive the same quality of education as students who attend classes on our campus. The diploma does not distinguish if you were an online student or a traditional campus-based student. In fact, we strongly encourage you to attend your graduation ceremony to celebrate your accomplishments.
Online learning is ideal for working professionals because it provides the opportunity to study when it is convenient for you. Although you will have timelines for submitting coursework, the flexibility this program offers makes it possible for even the busiest individuals to earn their degree. Add to that, the many levels of unprecedented support that you will receive throughout the program and it is easy to see that this may be just the educational model you have been looking for.
I am not computer savvy; can I do this?
Yes. We realize that many students are computer novices, so University of Saint Mary provides technical support and a full-time program manager who will be your personal guide throughout the program. New students also receive special support during an extensive orientation to online courses prior to starting classes.
I have an extremely busy work and family life and cannot attend classes each week. Is this teacher education program for me?
Yes. You can complete your studies at your convenience in the comfort of your own home. No campus visits are required. You will have access to your coursework 24 hours a day, which can be completed around your busy schedule.
